We at Centerplate would like to congratulate you on your selection of the Miami Beach Convention Center as the site of your upcoming event. We are certain you will be pleased with the offerings of Miami Beach.
Heading into the 21st Century, the Miami Beach Convention Center continues to be a popular site for major conventions, trade and consumer shows, especially those international in scope and nature. We are embarking in a new direction of making the Miami Beach Convention Center known as the “Best Kept Secret” venue to host galas, weddings, bar mitzvahs, sweet sixteen, quinces, anniversaries, reunions, retirement and graduation parties.
In 2007, the center opened its doors to a new catering venture into social catering. The Miami Beach Convention Center boasts its abundance of event spaces which allows many different demographics to take part in hosting various social gatherings. Recently, Centerplate hosted the first LEO- Law Enforcement Officers Awards Gala Night welcoming 800 guests, and “BBBS-Big Brothers Big Sisters - The Big Event”, hosting 820 guests. Both of these proved to be a spectacular evening of cocktails, dancing, gourmet cuisine prepared by chefs Jonathan Barnett of Centerplate, Michael Bloise of Wish, and Mike Sabin of Prime 112, and unparalleled South Beach ambiance and entertainment.
Some major conventions held at the Miami Beach Convention Center have included; the Shriners, NATPE for the television and movie industry, POW WOW for the travel industry, the Professional Convention Management Association`s Annual Meeting, MPI-Meeting Planners International, IAEM for the exposition management industry, NCLR-La Raza 2007, NAACP, NMSDC 2007, and various high-tech medical conventions. Most notably, the inaugural Microsoft Global Briefing - July 2001, a major sales and technology meeting of Microsoft employees Worldwide, utilized the entire Miami Beach Convention Center and Jackie Gleason Theater.

Opened in 1957, the Miami Beach Convention Center has been the heart of Miami Beach for almost fifty years. It served as the site where Cassius Clay (later known as Muhammad Ali) captured his first Heavyweight Championship of the World in 1964. In 1968, the Miami Beach Convention Center hosted the Republican National Convention and more than 20,000 delegates; while in 1972, more than 45,000 delegates visited the facility during both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions.
As the demand for exhibition space has increased, in 1990 the facility underwent a $92 million renovation and doubled in size. Coupled with recently completed multi-million dollar telecommunications infrastructure upgrades, the facility’s high-tech capabilities make it a leader in the meetings industry. The building’s look got a change in Summer/Fall 2001 with new carpet throughout, as well as both an interior and exterior color/paint update, and Summer/Fall 2006 with new rest- rooms in A Halls and the Meeting Room Concourse.
